WONDERFUL CHANDLERS FORD CENTRAL WIN SOUTHAMPTON BILLIARDS LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP
2015-2016 Billiards League – Week 21 – March 9th 2016
Fabulous Chandlers Ford Central secured the Southampton Billiards league championship on the last day of the season with a 4-2 victory over visitors Curdridge RBL.
The league’s top game winning player Daniel Zagaroli, who finished with 15 wins and only four loses, had to dig deep against Rob Smith though. Zagaroli made runs of 31 and 47 but with Smith needing 23 points on 177, Zagaroli crafted a game winning 75 unfinished. Chandler’s inspirational captain Terry Azor then played superbly, making breaks of 89, 59, 59 and 75 to beat Brian Bull 200-125.
Curdridge fought back with Clive Gamblin overcoming Graham Hollick by a close 200-197, but Ford’s Trevor Thorn made a 34 to make it 3-1, as he beat Derek Fry 200-157. Curdridge’s Nick Alford got his team their second point after beating Dave White 200-170, which helped them to a wonderful third place in the league on matches won over Churchills Eastleigh.
Chandler’s closest rivals Park Gate RBL could only manage a 3-3 draw out at Totton Rec, but can be proud of a fine campaign, finishing runners up. First up was Totton’s Brian Cannons who beat Paul Lawrence 200-139, and that was after Lawrence had made a fine 50 break.
Ian Finch pulled one back for Gate as he fought back with some solid billiards against Steve Allen, who made breaks of 33 and 31, to win 200-182. Totton’s Lee Fitzpatrick beat Chris Christodoulou in a game that could have swung either way by 200-198, with a missed pot yellow by Christodoulou, with Fitzpatrick at his mercy, ultimately being the deciding factor.
Gate’s Paul Tavender then made a 31 break against a luckless Mike Kunzi who succumbed 200-91, but he can be proud of his total wins stats this season. In the last pairing, Totton’s Tony Aldridge had to win by 65 or more against Steve Boterhoek to take the aggregate during a nip-and-tuck tie. Aldridge won, but the scores ended up 200-188 which left the total team aggregate score 873-925 in Gate’s favour.
Churchill’s Eastleigh take fourth position, which was remarkable after the disastrous start they made to the campaign, and that was after going down 4-2 at bottom club Hamble Social. Hamble's Will Mildenhall played well to pip Paul Adams, who made breaks of 40 and 61, 200-165, but Churchill’s Dave Baker, improving all the time, made it 1-1 by beating Shaun Murphy 200-182.
Hamble's Tony Spridgeon made a 33 break in beating Derek Foster, who made a 33 himself. Churchill’s Peter Green made it 2-2 after overcoming Rob Shattock 200-178, and it was left to newcomer Luke Castle to beat Mike Henstredge 200-178 to seal the victory.
Sarisbury Social visited Shirley Cons and left with a 4-2 win. Shirley’s Mike Thatcher beat John Oldfield, but Sarisbury’s Norman Bradfield pipped Malcolm Willis 200-198 to level. Geoff Knapp overcame Shirley’s Chris Holland 200-134 and Sarisbury’s Jeff James finished the season well by beating Keith Castles 200-136 for a 3-1 lead. Shirley’s promising newcomer Ryan Longhurst finished the match by beating Kas Remzi 200-177, but failed to win the aggregate, losing 868-938.
Our attention now turns to the Usher Cup semi finals and final and the singles and doubles cup tournaments, so good skill to all playing and thank you for an enjoyable and closely fought league season!

ONE WEEK TO GO AND THE TITLE IS GOING DOWN TO THE LAST IN-OFF!
(Chandlers Ford need 2 points from 6 to beat Park Gate RBL)
2015-2016 Billiards League – Week 20 – March 2nd 2016
One week to go in the Southampton Billiards league and the title chase is going down to the last match, with Chandlers Ford Central and Park Gate RBL battling it out in first and second place respectively.
The performance of the week though goes to Hamble Social, with their fantastic 4-2 victory over Totton Rec, for only their third win of the season. Hamble's Mark Spridgeon got them off to a great start by beating Tony Aldridge 200-177. That was followed by Hamble’s Shaun Murphy overcoming Brian Cannons 200-159, and it turned to 3-0 as Paul Knights had a humdinger against Steve Allen (31 break), eventually beating the Totton number one by a nail biting two points 200-198.
Hamble's Rob Shattock zoomed ahead of Mike Kunzi by 150-0, but the Totton man reeled in Shattock, helped by a fine 50 break, to win 200-175. In the last pairing it was left to Totton’s Lee Fitzpatrick to overcome Luke Castle 200-172.
Curdridge RBL had a superb 5-1 win over Park Gate RBL that dented their chance to overhaul Chandlers Ford at the top. Winners for Curdridge were Brian Bull over Chris Christodoulou by 200-175, and Nick Alford against Steve Boterhoek by only three points 200-197. Park Gate’s Ian Finch gave his team some hope as he overcame Clive Gamblin 200-168, but back came the home side as Derek Fry pipped Paul Lawrence by a nail biting four points 200-196. Curdridge’s Rob Smith sealed the aggregate points total and match victory by beating Paul Tavender 200-139.
Sarisbury Social put the champagne on ice for Chandlers Ford for at least a week, as they held the leaders to a 3-3 draw. It started well for Chandlers as Graham Hollick beat John Oldfield (31 break) 200-167, but Sarisbury’s Norman Bradfield made it 1-1 by overcoming Terry Azor (39 and 39) 200-125. Sarisbury’s Geoff Knapp (32 break) made it 2-1 by beating Dave White 200-182, but back came Chandlers with John Mullane (51 break) overcoming Kas Remzi 200-188 to set up a last game decider. Chandler’s Trevor Thorne (30 and 40 break) beat Jeff James 200-178 but it was not enough to stop Sarisbury winning the team points aggregate 943 to 907.
Churchill’s Eastleigh welcomed Shirley Cons and finished in style to win 5-1. Churchill’s Peter Green cued things off by beating Malcolm Willis 200-166, but Shirley’s Mike Thatcher (30 break) played well to beat Derek Foster (44 break) 200-137 to level. Shirley’s Chris Holland made an early 37 break to lead Dave Baker, but Baker played superbly to turn the game around and win 200-92.
Churchill’s Simon Green then consolidated his team’s lead by beating Adrian Bridger 200-158. Churchill’s Paul Adams trailed newcomer Ryan Longhurst deep into the game, even after making two 30 breaks, with Longhurst playing some fine in-offs. CHANDLERS LEAP TO THE TOP WITH ONLY TWO GAMES TO GO
2015-2016 Billiards League – Week 19 – February 24th 2016
Chandlers Ford Central showed why they are the best billiards team in the Southampton Billiards league at the moment, as they stopped Churchills Eastleigh's three game winning run, crushing them 6-0. Chandlers now leapfrog Park Gate RBL to lead the table by 2 and a half points with only two matches to go.
It started well for Chandlers, as captain Terry Azor (45 break) beat Peter Green 200-147 and that was followed by Daniel Zagaroli making breaks of 33, 30, 46, 41 and 45 to comprehensively beat Derek Foster (40 break) by 200-119. The last game had Trevor Thorn making a 50 break during his 200-155 victory over Paul Adams.

Gate won three of the tables on offer thanks to Paul Lawrence beating Geoff Knapp 200-122, Chris Christodoulou overcoming Kas Remzi by a nail biting 200-199 and Ian Finch beating Norman Bradfield 200-184. It wasn’t enough though as Sarisbury’s captain John Oldfield helped win the team aggregate points total by overcoming Chris Pullen 200-149.
Shirley Cons welcomed Hamble Social and beat them 4-2. Shirley’s Ryan Longhurst overcame Luke Castle 200-173 in the first pairing, but back came Hamble with Tony Spridgeon beating Mike Thatcher 200-186. Then Chandler’s captain Terry Azor, fresh from his second successful trip away to Northern Ireland with the England amateur billiards team, had a superb 200-105 victory over Steve Boterhoek.
Park Gate rallied with Paul Tavender (35 break) beating Daniel Zagaroli 200-144, and that was after Zagaroli had made a fine 92 break. Sarisbury Social beat visitors Hamble Social 4-2, thanks to victories for John Oldfield against Mark Spridgeon, Jeff James over Shaun Murphy and Geoff Knapp against Luke Castle. Hamble finished the evening the stronger team with Paul Knights beating Norman Bradfield and Rob Shattock overcoming Kas Remzi.

WHERE THERE'S A 'WILLIS' THERE'S A WAY FOR SHIRLEY CONS
2015-2016 Billiards League – Week 12 – December 16th 2015
Shirley Cons had a fine 3-3 draw out at Hamble Social in the Southampton Billiards league and that was after only winning three tables.
Hamble started well with Paul Knights beating Mike Thatcher by a nail biting two points 200-198 and that was followed by another close one, as Rob Shattock pipped Keith Castles by 200-195.
Shirley rallied with Sid Hunt squeezing past Luke Castle by 200-198 and the decisive game came next as Shirley’s Malcolm Willis beat Will Mildenhall by 200-112 to give his team the aggregate advantage at 793 to 710. Hamble's Mark Spridgeon had other ideas as he overcame Chris Holland 200-179 but could not overturn the team aggregate points total as Shirley won that 972-910.
Curdridge RBL had a fine 4-2 win against current champions Totton Rec. Winners for Curdridge were Clive Gamblin, Derek Fry and Richard Marshall in the first three games, against Dan Stone, Steve Allen and Tony Aldridge respectively. Back came Totton in the shape of Mike Kunzi (40 break) beating Gwen Gamblin and Lee Fitzpatrick overcoming Brian Bull, to give the score some respectability.
Park Gate had a great 4-2 victory at the stronghold that is Sarisbury Social. Winners for Park Gate were Paul Tavender, Paul Lawrence and Chris Christodoulou over Jeff James (32), Geoff Knapp and Norman Bradfield respectively. Sarisbury’s winners were John Oldfield against Steve Boterhoek and Kas Remzi over Ian Finch.
Churchill’s match with Chandlers Ford could have been abandoned, as technical difficulties with two table’s light machines meant that two alternative tables had to be used, which is fortunate as the club has four tables!
It started off well for Churchills as Derek Foster (31) beat Trevor Thorn, but then the whirlwind that is Daniel Zagaroli and John Mullane breezed through the auditorium! Zagaroli made a 54 and numerous other breaks to beat Peter Green 200-107 and Mullane made breaks of 80 and 37 to lead Churchill’s Simon Green. Green however came back strongly and only narrowly lost by six points, 200-194.
Chandlers Ford Central’s Terry Azor beat Sid Reid, making lovely breaks of 47, 94 and a 40 unfinished. But the performance of the evening went to Churchill’s Dave Baker, as he overcame Graham Hollick in the last pairing by 200-118, to only just lose the aggregate 873-878 and the match 4-2!

CHANDLER’S CHRISTMAS CHEER FOR MULLANE’S MAGICAL 144
2015-2016 Billiards League – Week 11 – December 9th 2015
Chandlers Ford Central’s John Mullane increased the Southampton Billiards league season high break to a magical 144 during his team’s 4-2 victory over visitors Hamble Social.
He also made a 69 against Shaun Murphy in the last pairing of the evening, to pinch the overall team aggregate point by 908 to 893, and take his team back to the top of the table but by only half a point!
The match started with Chandler’s captain Terry Azor making breaks of 62, 34 and 64 to beat Paul Knights 200-168. Back came Hamble with Will Mildenhall overcoming Dave White by 200-164. Then Chandler’s Daniel Zagaroli made runs of 30, 35, 41, 44 and 86 in beating Rob Shattock 200-165 for a 2-1 lead. But back came Hamble again, with Mark Spridgeon beating Trevor Thorn 200-144 to square the match at 2-2, but the pièce de résistance was left to Mullane in the final game.
Curdridge are right behind Chandlers after their fine 4-2 victory against visitors Sarisbury Social. Winners for Curdridge were Clive Gamblin, Brian Bull and Nick Alford against Norman Bradfield, Kas Remzi and Geoff Knapp respectively. Sarisbury’s seasonal saviours were John Oldfield (31 break) against Rob Smith and Jeff James, who made a fine 39 unfinished against Derek Fry, all when James was on 161 and Fry was on a tantalisingly close 187!
Shirley Cons visited current champions Totton Rec and left 4-2 winners. In the first game Shirley’s Adrian Bridger decisively beat Mike Kunzi by 200-57 to give his team the aggregate advantage. Totton’s Brain Cannons then beat Chris Holland to level, but then Shirley’s Mike Thatcher overcame Lee Fitzpatrick. Totton’s Dan Stone squared at 2-2 by beating Keith Castles, but Shirley’s Malcolm Willis sealed the win by overcoming Tony Aldridge.
Churchills Eastleigh had another fine win, this time a 4-2 at previous leaders Park Gate RBL. Winners for Churchills were Peter Green against Paul Lawrence, Simon Green over Steve Boterhoek and Sid Reid’s against Chris Christodoulou. Park Gate replied with victories for Ian Finch against Paul Adams, despite Adams making breaks of 49 and 44 and Paul Tavender against Mike Henstredge.
So with one more match to go before the Christmas break, only four and a half points separate the top six positions in the league! All to play for in the New Year I’d say…

CHURCHILLS EASTLEIGH DEFY THE ODDS AGAINST CURDRIDGE RBL
2015-2016 Billiards League – Week 10 – December 2nd 2015
Previous table proppers Churchills Eastleigh had a superb 5-1 victory over last week's table toppers Curdridge RBL in the Southampton billiards league.
It started well for the home side, as Churchill's Simon Green beat Nick Alford by 26 points. Then Churchills Paul Adams made a 45 break to close the gap on an in-form Clive Gamblin. But with Gamblin on 199, and needing only one point for victory, Adams made an 18 unfinished to pip the Curdridge number one.
Churchills Derek Fry then looked to have pulled one back for the away side as he led Derek Foster by a considerable margin. But back came Foster eventually winning by 18 points. Churchills rapidly improving Dave Baker made a well-crafted 44 break to beat Rob Smith by 57 points, which left his team 4-0 up and the aggregate poised at 800 to 698 in Churchills favour.
Curdridge's Brian Bull played superbly to lead Peter Green by over 80 points at one stage, looking as if he would turn the aggregate around and keep the loss down to 4-2. But Green managed to make a 32 break late on to restore the aggregate advantage. It was not enough however to stop Bull from a fine win by 200-145, but ultimately a 5-1 team loss.
Shirley Cons had a great 4-2 win over visitors Chandlers Ford Central. Winners for Shirley were Sid Hunt over Graham Hollick and Chris Holland against Trevor Thorn. In-between those games was a Chandlers Fords victory for Daniel Zagaroli (53 break) against Mike Thatcher. Chandler’s Terry Azor made beaks of 31, 37, 42 and 51 to give his team hope, as he overcame Malcolm Willis. But Shirley’s Keith Castles beat Dave White to hand his team the victory.
Totton Rec had a fine 3-3 draw out at Sarisbury Social, and that was after losing three of the five tables on offer. Totton started well with Mike Kunzi making runs of 61 and 32 in beating Geoff Knapp. But then Sarisbury kicked into form with three wins on the spin. Jeff James beat Tony Aldridge, Norman Bradfield overcame Brian Cannons by one point, and John Oldfield beat Steve Allen, despite Allen making a 34 and 50. Totton’s Dan Stone was the aggregate point saviour as he overcame Kas Remzi by 49 points to turn the aggregate into a 977 to 892 points win for his side.
It was the same 3-3 storyline at Hamble Social, with Park Gate RBL winning the first and fifth pairings of the evening, thanks to Chris Pullen against Luke Castle and Ian Finch over Rob Shattock. Sandwiched in-between those results was Mark Spridgeon’s win over Chris Christodoulou (31), Shaun Murphy against Paul Tavender and Will Mildenhall against Steve Boterhoek. This left the aggregate at 948 to 927 in Park Gates favour despite only winning two games.

CURDRIDGE RBL'S FINE WIN, BUT OH SO CLOSE FOR HAMBLE'S 'KNIGHTS' IN SHINING ARMOUR
2015-2016 Billiards League – Week 9 – November 25th 2015
Curdridge Royal British Legion had a fine 4-2 victory over visitors Hamble Social in the Southampton Billiards league.
They started off well with number one Clive Gamblin (38 break) beating Will Mildenhall by 33 points. This was followed up by Brian Bull’s 38 points victory over Rob Shattock. Unfortunately it got worse for Hamble as Curdridge’s Nick Alford overcame Shaun Murphy by a tantilisingly close 14 points.
But back surged Hamble, as Mark Spridgeon beat Derek Fry by 32 points. This left the team points total aggregate at 768 to 715 in Curdridge’s favour, which meant Hamble’s Paul Knights needed to beat Gwen Gamblin by a considerable margin. Well, he did, playing superbly to win by 200-149, including a 33 break. But agonisingly it was not quite enough, as he needed to win by two more points, which meant Curdridge had won the aggregate by 917 points to 915. Hard luck Paul!
Park Gate RBL looked to be on the way to a 4-2 victory over visitors Shirley Cons thanks to wins for Steve Boterhoek, Paul Tavender and Ian Finch over Chris Holland, Mark Emm and Sid Hunt. But in-between the first two wins, Shirley’s Keith Castles beat Chris Christodoulou and in the last pairing, Mike Thatcher turned the aggregate on its head by beating Paul Lawrence by 86 points. This helped them win the team aggregate point by nail biting 14 points, 918 to 904.
Churchills Eastleigh visited Sarisbury Social and turned around a similar negative result into a welcome 3-3 draw. Sarisbury’s Norman Bradfield beat Derek Foster in the first game and Kas Remzi overcame Simon Green for a 2-0 lead. Churchill’s Paul Adams then made a fine 61 break to beat Geoff Knapp by 64 points to pull the aggregate back somewhat. Sarisbury’s John Oldfield made a 38 break in beating Mike Henstredge, but back came Churchills with Dave Baker’s 54-point victory over ex-town champion Jeff James to win the aggregate point by 905 points to 882.
Totton Rec had a superb 4-2 win against visitors Chandlers Ford Central. This was achieved by Mike Kunzi, Brian Cannons and Lee Fitzpatrick beating Daniel Zagaroli (39 and 54), Wayne Muddiman (32) and Terry Azor respectively in the first three tables. Chandlers Ford fought back through Graham Hollick overcoming Dan Stone and Dave White beating Tony Aldridge in the last pairing.

TERRY'S ALL GOLD AS CHANDLERS FORD GO TOP AND AZOR JETS OFF FOR ENGLAND
2015-2016 Billiards League – Week 8 – November 18th 2015
Chandlers Ford Central's captain Terry Azor celebrated his EABA England billiards team call up by helping his team to move to the top of the league after a fine 5-1 victory against previous leaders Park Gate RBL.
Chandlers Ford Central's Daniel Zagaroli got things going by making runs of 38, 52, 30, 32, 33 and 41 unfinished to stun Park Gate's Chris Pullen. Then Chandler's Graham Hollick continued his rich vein of form by overcoming Steve Boterhoek by a nail biting eight points. The man of the moment would not be denied in the third pairing as Terry Azor beat Paul Tavender by 15 points, thanks in part to two breaks of 40.
Chandlers Ford Central's Trevor Thorn then pipped Ian Finch by six points, making a 46 break in the process. In the last pairing Park Gate's number one Paul Lawrence was his side's saviour as he beat Dave White by 20 points.
Shirley Cons had a fine 3-3 draw against visitors Curdridge RBL, and that was after winning only two tables. It started badly for Cons with Curdridge's Gwen Gamblin beating Keith Castles by only four points, but Mike Thatcher gained parity with a 23 points win over Curdridge's Nick Alford.
Curdridge's Derek Fry then beat Sid Hunt by only six points to give his side a 2-0 lead. Then Shirley's Chris Holland decisively returned to form with a 63 points victory over Clive Gamblin, to all but seal the team aggregate points total. Curdridge took the last pairing of Rob Smith against Malcolm Willis by only four points for three tables, but lost the aggregate 986 points to 914.
Churchill's Eastleigh handed out a stunning 5-1 thrashing to visitors Totton Rec, with Peter Green beating Mike Kunzi by 49 points, Simon Green winning by 39 points against Lee Fitzpatrick, Mike Henstredge by 25 points over Brian Cannons and Dave Baker (34 break) by 150 points against Steve Allen. Totton's Tony Aldridge (31 break) saved the whitewash blushes by beating Derek Foster by 33 points.

Shirley Cons had a fine 4-2 victory over visiting Hamble Social in the Southampton Billiards league, winning four of the five games played, but lost the total team aggregate point by a nail biting two points, 940 to 942!
Shirley started well with league president Sid Hunt beating Mark Spridgeon by eight points 200-192, and Keith Castles made it 2-0 by overcoming Shaun Murphy by six points 200-194. Hamble then gained the aggregate advantage thanks to Rob Shattock’s 60-point win over Chris Holland.
Shirley secured their third game of the evening as Malcolm Willis stopped Paul Knights three match winning run by 200-178. Then Shirley’s Mark Emm beat Will Mildenhall by exactly the same score to give his team the win, but not quite enough to secure the aggregate points total.
Park Gate leapt back to the top of the league thanks to their 5-1 win over visitors Sarisbury Social. Winning for Park Gate were Paul Lawrence over Dennis Hushley and Chris Christodoulou against Geoff Knapp. After those games, came Sarisbury’s Kas Remzi’s win against Ian Finch. Park Gate’s Chris Pullen then beat Norman Bradfield and Steve Boterhoek finished proceedings by overcoming John Oldfield.
The battle between last week’s leaders Curdridge RBL and current champions Totton Rec ended up in favour of the champions and a 4-2 victory. Winning for Totton were Mike Kunzi, who made a fine 64 break, Steve Allen and Dan Stone verses Brian Bull, Nick Alford and Derek Fry respectively. Curdridge replied with wins for Clive Gamblin against Brian Cannons and wife Gwen Gamblin, conqueror of Tony Aldridge.
Playing in their new upstairs home, on two tables from the now defunct Shirley Social club, Chandlers Ford Central had a fine 5-1 victory over visiting Churchills Eastleigh. They started well with wins for Daniel Zagaroli, who made a fine 99 break and a 35 over Paul Adams, and John Mullane, who made runs of 55, 58 and 69, against Dave Baker.
Chandlers Graham Hollick beat Simon Green but Churchill’s fought back with a first win of the season for Derek Foster over Trevor Thorn, who made a fine 64 break. Chandler’s Dave White wrapped up the match by beating Peter Green.

ZAGAROLI'S MAGICAL 124, AND NEARLY ANOTHER CENTURY IN THE SAME GAME!
2015-2016 Billiards League – Week 4 – October 21st 2015
As the Southampton Billiards League moved into the fourth week, the highlight from the four matches played was Chandlers Ford Central’s Daniel Zagaroli's magical 124 break, to go with a 92, which could also have been a century, and a 46. Two centuries in a league match would have been a modern day record – so there's something we can all aspire to!
Chandler’s Dave White won his first game of the season against Shaun Murphy, and after Zagaroli’s win, Hamble fought back with Will Mildenhall overcoming Terry Azor (42, 42 break). Chandler's Trevor Thorn (30 break) then beat Rob Shattock by one point, which set up an exciting finale. Hamble's Paul Knights then beat Rob Smith by 200-188, but amazingly the aggregate was tied at 929 points to 929, which left the match at 3 1/2 points to 2 1/2 points in Chandler’s favour.
Curdridge RBL leapt to the top of the league thanks to a 6-0 whitewash of hosts Sarisbury Social. Winners for Curdridge were Brian Bull, Derek Fry, Nick Alford, Gwen Gamblin and Clive Gamblin verses Geoff Knapp (33 break), Norman Bradfield, John Oldfield, Dennis Hushley and Kas Remzi respectively
Parks Gate RBL slipped from the league summit to second despite beating hosts Churchills Eastleigh 5-1. Park Gate’s Chris Pullen beat Dave Baker then Chris Christodoulou beat Derek Foster for a 2-0 lead. Park Gate’s Paul Lawrence then made a fine 40 break in overcoming Sid Reid.
Park Gate's Paul Tavender then looked as if he would make it 4-0 after taking a large lead against Churchill’s Paul Adams. Adams however made breaks of 43 and 42 to reduce the deficit. And when Tavender needed four for game, Adams made a 45 unfinished which included a fluked cannon, which left his opponents white over the pocket, which he potted, when needing two for game! In the last game Churchill's Mike Henstredge started well and made a fine 24 break, but a determined and improving Steve Boterhoek came back and won by a nail biting six points.
Shirley Cons had a fine 4-2 victory over visiting Totton Rec. It started well for the champions as Lee Fitzpatrick beat Mike Thatcher and Brian Cannons overcame Sid Hunt. This however inspired Shirley as they won the next three games thanks to Chris Holland’s 43 break during his win over John Ransome, Malcolm Willis’s 34 break against Mike Kunzi and Mark Emm’s nine-point victory against Tony Aldridge.

Sarisbury’s captain John Oldfield (33 break) kicked off proceedings by overcoming Steve Allen and returning Jeff James made it 2-0 by beating Mike Kunzi (39 break) to give Sarisbury a considerable aggregate total advantage.
Totton’s Tony Aldridge gave his team some hope by beating Norman Bradfield by a similar score to the first two games but Salisbury’s Geoff Knapp quashed any hope of a fight back by beating Lee Fitzpatrick. Totton’s Dan Stone had a walkover but it could not stop Sarisbury winning the aggregate by 737 to 661 and the match.
Shirley Cons had the second best result of the week as they beat hosts Chandlers Ford Central 4-2. Shirley's Sid Hunt won the first game against Terry Azor, who made a 36 and a fine season high so far 76. Then Chandler's Daniel Zagaroli made runs of 46, 42 and 71 to beat Mike Thatcher by 54 points to level the match.
Chandler’s then took the lead thanks to Satpal Hans overcoming Chris Holland by 73 points, but back came Shirley to level, with Malcolm Willis beating Dave White. It was left to Shirley's Keith Castles to beat Trevor Thorn by 84 points to seal the aggregate 870 to 840 and the match.
Curdridge RBL had a fine 5-1 win at home to Churchills Eastleigh. Winners for Curdridge were Nick Alford, Gwen Gamblin, Brian Bull and Derek Fry against Simon Green, Paul Adams, Derek Foster and Dave Baker respectively. Mike Henstredge saved Churchill’s blushes by playing the best game his captain had seen him play, by overcoming Curdridge’s Clive Gamblin (33 break) by 28 points.
Park Gate RBL beat Hamble Social 4-2

CHURCHILL'S NARROW WIN OVER SARISBURY SOCIAL
2015-2016 Billiards League – Week 2 – October 7th 2015
The second week of the Southampton Billiards league paired two experienced billiard teams in Churchills Eastleigh and Sarisbury Social.
Sarisbury’s Geoff Knapp rode his luck in the first game as he built up a considerable lead against Derek Foster. But just as it looked as if Knapp would wrap up proceedings, Foster made a 39 and a 22 to claw his way back! Another break in the teens left him tantalisingly on 197 but Knapp showed his class as he reeled in the last 15 points to pip his luckless opponent! On the other table Churchill’s Simon Green played well to beat Dennis Hushley to square the match.
With Sarisbury’s Jeff James a no show against Sid Reid, it was left to number ones John Oldfield and Paul Adams to play out the evening. Oldfield started the stronger and led by a considerable margin even with the handicap advantage. However, Adams made breaks of 31, 30 and when Oldfield required 12 for game, a fine 31 unfinished to take the aggregate by 774 to 751 and the match 4-2.
Chandlers Ford Central welcomed Totton Rec and had a similar narrow aggregate win by 926 to 913, as they drew 3-3. Winners for Chandlers were Daniel Zagaroli, who made a fine 70 break to go with a 34 and 36 against Dan Stone, and Satpal Hans over Lee Fitzpatrick. Totton’s victors were Mike Kunzi pipping Ray Smith by 9 points, Tony Aldridge by 11 against Dave White and Steve Allen (35 break) in the last pairing against Terry Azor (34 break).
Park Gate RBL beat hosts Shirley Cons 4-2. Winners for Park Gate were Paul Tavender, Chris Pullen and Chris Christodoulou against Mike Thatcher, Malcolm Willis and Sid Hunt respectively. Sandwiched in-between those wins were victories for Shirley’s Chris Holland over Ian Finch and Keith Castles against Steve Boterhoek.
Curdridge RBL left Hamble Social with three table wins, but could only draw 3-3, as Hamble’s Rob Shattock beat Clive Gamblin decisively in the last pairing to win the aggregate. Wins for Curdridge came from Brian Bull over Shaun Murphy, Nick Alford against Tony Spridgeon and Gwen Gamblin piping Will Mildenhall by an exciting three points! Hamble’s returning Paul Knights potted well to beat Derek Fry in the first game.

TOTTON REC START THEIR BILLIARD TITLE DEFENCE IN STYLE
2015-2016 Billiards League – Week 1 – September 30th 2015
The 2015–2016 Southampton and District Billiards League cued-off in style as eight teams compete for the prestigious trophy.
Last season’s champions Totton Rec played host to Churchills Eastleigh, and it all started well for the Totton team, as they won the first two tables. Totton’s Mike Kunzi played well to beat Peter Green, making a 35 and 31 along the way. Then Dan Stone overcame Derek Foster to take a big aggregate advantage into the third game. Lee Fitzpatrick looked as if he might win by a similar margin against Churchill’s Dave Baker, but Baker fought back to only lose by 21 points.
Totton’s number one Steve Allen started well against his Churchill’s opposite Paul Adams, by making a 43 break, but Adams came back, scoring breaks of 40, a 13 hazard 42, and a 33 unfinished to give his team some hope. Churchill’s Simon Green started superbly by making a fine 31 break but Totton’s experienced Tony Aldridge reeled him in to win by 28 points and take the match 5-1.
Last season’s runners-up Park Gate beat visiting Chandlers Ford Central 4-2, thanks to wins for Paul Tavender against Trevor Thorn, Steve Boterhoek over Daniel Zagaroli and Ian Finch verses newcomer Dave White. In between that Chandler’s Graham Hollick pipped Paul Lawrence by four points and it was left to Chandler’s captain Terry Azor to overcome Chris Pullen, thanks in part to a fine pairing of 54 and 65.
Curdridge overcame visitors Shirley Cons 4-2 and that was after Shirley had taken a 2-0 lead, thanks to Mike Thatcher beating Brian Bull and Shaun Picton overcoming Clive Gamblin by six points. Shirley did however field only four players and lost the next two tables. Curdridge’s Nick Alford beating Malcolm Willis decisively and Derek Fry overcoming Sid Hunt.
Sarisbury Social also could only field four players as they went down 4-2 against Hamble Social. Winners for Hamble were Will Mildenhall against Norman Bradfield and Rob Shattock over Geoff Knapp. Sarisbury’s victors were John Oldfield over Paul Knights and Kas Remzi against newcomer Shaun Murphy.
