Hamble Social's Steve Cottrell, Nick Wood, captain Will Mildenhall, Tony Spridgeon, Paul Knights and Rob Shattock welcome the prestigious Southampton Billiards League Championship Shield back to their club, first presented by Sir George Hussey in 1936
HAMBLE SOCIAL ARE WORTHY SOUTHAMPTON BILLIARDS LEAGUE WINNERS!
2012–2013 Billiards League – Week 27 – 16 May 2013
Hamble Social are the 2012-2013 Southampton and District Billiards League champions, after current champions Churchills Eastleigh failed to beat hosts Chandlers Ford Central by the required 6 games to nil. Chandlers won the match 4-2 with some fine all round billiards played on the night, but the two points secured a welcome runners-up spot for the Eastleigh team
Hamble Social had a fantastic season, dealing with their two handicap adjustments well. The league could have been won by any one of four teams in the final two weeks but Will Mildenhall's team showed their improving billiards knowledge will stand them in good stead for the coming seasons
Chandlers' Daniel Zagaroli was in devastating potting form as he overwhelmed Paul Adams, although both players didn't manage a single break over 39! And Churchill's Derek Foster beat Terry Azor, who made runs of 50, 41 and 43.
Chandler's Wayne Muddiman overcame Mark Adams, and John Mullane made an 86, 43 and 46 to pip Peter Green by 7 points, after Green had made a 38. In the last pairing Churchill's Dave Baker beat Marc Shirley after the Chandlers man had made a fine 37 break.
Hythe Social had a fine 4-2 victory against visitors Bitterne RBL with Warren Renyard making it two wins in a row after beating Paul Lawrence and Hythe's Rob Tennant beat Chris Christodoulou. Bitterne fought back with Paul Tavender overcoming Tony Scarborough but Hythe's Wayne Chiverton gave his team a 3-1 lead after defeating Steve Boterhoek. Bitterne's Mark Stansmore beat Brian Price in the last pairing for a 931-863 aggregate win
Hosts Sarisbury Social whitewashed unfortunate Totton Rec 6-0, with John Oldfield (54 break), Dave Leeworthy, Norman Bradfield, Geoff Knapp and Dennis Hushley beating Steve Allen, Tony Aldridge, Mike Kunzi and Josh Barnes respectively
Woolston Cons had a great 4-2 win out at Curdridge RBL with the city team winning the aggregate by only 28 points. Winners for Woolston were Mike Thatcher against Gwen Gamblin, Adrian Bridger against Derek Fry, and Sid Hunt over Brain Bull, by only 7 points. Curdridge's victors were Clive Gamblin against Ian Hines, who made a 30 break, and Nick Alford over Mark Emm

Southampton Billiards League leaders Hamble Social finished their 2012-2013 campaign with a hard fought 3-3 draw at hosts Bitterne RBL
Paul Knights started the evening well with a nail biting 200-195 win over Paul Tavender and Tony Spridgeon continued the good news with a comprehensive win against Paul Lawrence
Bitterne's Chris Christodoulou made breaks of 35 and 32 during a fine win over Nick Wood, who made a 49 break. If the first game was close the fourth was even closer, as Bitterne's Steve Boterhoek fell agonisingly close to levelling the match, Rob Shattock holding his nerve to win by two points!
In the last pairing Bitterne's Mark Stansmore played well to beat in form Will Mildenhall to steal the aggregate point 933 to 922 to keep this seasons championship alive for another week
Totton Rec had a good 5-1 win over visitors Woolston Cons with their first four players all winning. Josh Barnes, Brian Cannons, Steve Allen (3 breaks of 30) and Mike Kunzi (33) beat Mike Thatcher, Sid Hunt, Ian Hine and Malcolm Willis respectively. Woolston's Adrian Bridger saved the whitewash as he beat Totton's Tony Aldridge
Current champions Churchills Eastleigh kept their hopes of retaining the title alive with a fine 4-2 win over visitors Hythe Social. Churchill's Derek Foster made a 42 break in beating improving Jamie Barnes and Simon Green beat Hythe's Brian Price to lead 2-0. And Hythe's 'super sub' Warren Renyard made a fine 42 break on his way to beating Dave Baker in the third pairing
Churchill's Paul Adams made a 55 and a 61 in beating Wayne Chiverton which set up a last game challenge for Hythe's Rob Tennant with Churchills leading by 28 points on the aggregate. Tennant led in the fourth quarter but Green fought back to require nine for game. Both players then ended up on 198 each! With a pot white from 'in hand' on, Green tried a difficult pot red for game and narrowly missed which let Tennant in, but he missed also!
With a difficult in off red required, Green could not quite get enough back spin and cruelly missed the red completely to give away a two point foul and hand the game to a grateful Tennant!

2012 – 2013 Billiards League – Week 24 – 26 April 2013
TOTTON MOVE OFF THE BOTTOM WITH A GREAT WIN OVER CURDRIDGE RBL
Totton Rec had a great 5-1 win at home to Curdridge RBL in the Southampton Billiards League that helped them move off the bottom of the table above Bitterne RBL on matches won
Totton's Tony Aldridge kicked things off by overcoming Nick Alford and Brian Cannons made it 2-0 by beating Brian Bull. Mike Kunzi continued Totton's form by beating Derek Fry but Clive Gamblin fought back for Curdridge by beating Josh Barnes. It was left to Totton's captain Steve Allen to pip Gwen Gamblin by three points to seal the win!
Hythe's Wayne Crotty said that his team were "very lucky to get away with a 3-3 draw" in their visit to leaders Hamble Social. Hythe won three games by eight, six and twelve points, with Rob Tennant beating Steve Cottrell, Warren Renyard (32 break) overcoming Paul Knights and Brian Price beating Will Mildenhall (35 break)
Hamble responded with wins for Tony Spridgeon against Wayne Chiverton and Nick Wood (32 and 32) verses Tony Scarborough to win the aggregate point 974 to 882 to keep their lead at the top intact. With three matches to go it's going to an exciting finish to the campaign!
Churchills Eastleigh visited Sarisbury and looked to be heading for a 4-2 loss but miraculously won the aggregate point by six points. It started evenly with Stan Pitts playing well to lead by a large margin against Derek Foster. However Foster clawed his way back in the third quarter to "get out of jail", winning 200-184
On the other table Norman Bradfield came up against an inspired Paul Adams who made runs of 50, 38, 37, 34 and 33 to win by 110 points. This sparked a Sarisbury fight back with Dave Leeworthy overcoming Peter Green and Geoff Knapp beating Dave Baker
This set up a last pairing decider between John Oldfield and Mark Adams. Oldfield playing fluently closed in on Adams and took the lead at the 160 mark, but Adams held on to secure the aggregate point, although Oldfield crossed the line the victor
Chandlers Ford Central had a fine 4-2 victory at Woolston Cons, but it could have been 5-1 as they won four tables to one. The deciding factor was Woolston's Mike Thatcher as he comprehensively beat Daniel Zagaroli to wrestle the aggregate point away from Terry Azor's men
Woolston's Sid Hunt back from holiday nearly had a happy playing return as he fell nine points short to improving Marc Shirley. Azor then showed his mettle to make a 44 unfinished against Woolston newcomer Shaun Picton. It was then Thatcher's turn to hold back Zagaroli but Chandler's Wayne Muddiman hit back by beating Keith Castles. It was left to Chandler's Ray Smith to win the second game of his billiards 'career' against Malcolm Willis

2012 – 2013 Billiards League – Week 23 – 19 April 2013
CHAMPIONS CLOSE THE GAP TO TWO POINTS
In the past, Champions Churchills Eastleigh visit to Curdridge RBL ended up as match loss, and it looked as if that would be the case this week as they went 2-0 down in the Southampton Billiards League
Churchill's Mike Henstredge played well to lead Brian Bull by twenty points at the half way point but Bull made two twenty breaks to turn the game on its head for a fine win. Dave Baker playing some great billiards in the first half was also checked in his progress by Rob Smith, who played the more consistent of the two to fall over the line
Curdridge's Clive Gamblin and Derek Foster had a fine battle with both players stuck on 195 each! Foster then pipped the Curdridge captain for the night by three points. Churchill's Paul Adams found the Curdridge table hard to get to grips during his game with Nick Alford and Alford kept his handicap advantage for much of the game with some good safety play and a 27 break. But thanks to some tactical safety play of his own (a skill underused by many players!), Adams crafted a 38 and 50 to eventually win
This set up a last game decider between Curdridge's Derek Fry and Simon Green. Green playing confidently managed to win the game and the team aggregate point by 955-933 for a great 4-2 victory
Sarisbury Social showed their billiards knowledge as the narrowly beat leaders Hamble Social 4-2. Hamble's Rob Shattock had a great win over John Oldfield (47 break) but Dave Leeworthy made a 45 break during his win over Tony Spridgeon. Hamble's Will Mildenhall had a great win over Norman Bradfield but Geoff Knapp played well to win against Steve Cottrell. Sarisbury's 'super sub' Dennis Hushley showed his vast experience to beat Hamble's Nick Wood for the team win
Hythe gave themselves the chance to win the championship by beating hosts Woolston Cons 5-1. Winners for Hythe were Rob Tennant, Brain Price and Jamie Barnes against Ian Hine, Mike Thatcher and Keith Castles respectively. Woolston's winner was Malcolm Willis against Wayne Crotty but they unfortunately could only field four players
Bitterne RBL had a great 5-1 win at Totton, with Chris Christodoulou winning by three points against Mike Kunzi, Chris Pullen against Josh Barnes, Paul Tavander against Brain Cannons and Paul Lawrence verses Merv Allen. Totton's Tony Aldridge showed his determination to avoid a whitewash by pipping Steve Boterhoek by four points

2012 – 2013 Billiards League – Week 22 – 11 April 2013
5 WEEKS TO GO AND HYTHE MAKE A CHALLENGE
Hythe Social had a fine 4-2 victory over visitors Chandlers Ford Central in the Southampton Billiards League and with five weeks to go it looks as if the title will be between a possible four or five teams, although Hamble are four points clear
Rob Tennant got the evening off to a great start as he beat Terry Azor but Chandler's Daniel Zagaroli hit back with breaks of 38, 49 and 51 during his win over Brian Price. Then Hythe's Jamie Barnes beat Ray Smith to give his team the advantage going into the final two tables
Hythe's captain Wayne Crotty made a 41 and a 47 in beating Marc Shirley to secure his side at least three points but the best was left for last, as Chandler's John Mullane made breaks of 99, 71, 49 and 68 during his win over Wayne Chiverton, but Hythe had done enough to win the aggregate 869 to 764
Bitterne RBL unfortunately could only field four players in their match at Churchills Eastleigh, and nearly pulled of an unlikely win, with three games going down to 3, 12 and 14 points, but they eventually lost 6-0
Bitterne's Paul Lawrence had a ding-dong battle with Peter Green but narrowly fell short by three points and Churchill's Dave Baker played well, making a 42 break in beating Steve Boterhoek. Churchill's Derek Foster made a 30 break during his win over Chris Christodoulou, who played some fine billiards during the game. And Chris Pullen led Paul Adams for much of the game, playing some good long in-offs, but let the Churchill's player in once to often as he won by a narrow 12 points
Woolston Cons continued their good form with a 3-3 draw against visiting Sarisbury Social. Playing with new billiard balls (weighed and approved by John Oldfield) they lost the first two games – Dave Leeworthy beating Ian Hine and Stan Pitts pipping Mike Thatcher by six points
The next two games went Woolston's way, with Malcolm Willis overcoming Geoff Knapp and Mark Emm beating John Oldfield, to set up a last game decider. Norman Bradfield saved Sarisbury's blushes as he narrowly beat Keith Castles by six points but failed to win the aggregate point
Top spot Hamble Social won another match by four games to two, this time to visitors Totton Rec. Mike Kunzi continued his fine form by beating Steve Cottrell but Hamble's Tony Spridgeon overcame Steve Allen. Nick Wood made breaks of 58 and 36 during his fine win over Tony Aldridge and Will Mildenhall said he "couldn't play any better" as he beat a keen Josh Barnes by five points. It was left to Totton newcomer Merv Allen to give his side a valuable point against Paul Knights

2012 – 2013 Billiard League – Week 21 – 6 April 2013
WOOLSTON CONS WONDERFUL WIN OVER HAMBLE SOCIAL
Woolston Cons visited high flying Hamble Social and beat the leaders 4-2 in the Southampton Billiards League
Woolston's Malcolm Willis got his team off to a flyer on the new cloths, as he beat Steve Cottrell, but Hamble's Will Mildenhall made a 33 break during his fine win over Ian Hine to pull his team level
Tony Spridgeon then gave his team the lead as he pipped Sid Hunt by five points. Woolston's Mike Thatcher found his range as he beat Nick Wood to set up a last game decider. And Woolston's Keith Castles was up to the challenge as he beat Rob Shattock by a nail biting five points!
Chandlers Ford Central are finding form as they beat visitors Sarisbury Social 5-1. Daniel Zagaroli started the ball rolling as he made breaks of 69 and 71 during his win over Stan Pitts. Terry Azor was in imperious break-building mode, as he put together runs of 53, 44, 68, 48 and 35 in a clinical win over Geoff Knapp. But Sarisbury's Norman Bradfield was in no mood to see his team go 3-0 down, as he beat Marc Shirley by a similar margin
Chandler's 'new boy' Ray Smith won his first game, as he beat Sarisbury's captain John Oldfield and Chandler's John Mullane stepped up to make breaks of 76, 44 and 40 to seal the victory against Dave Leeworthy
Churchill's Eastleigh were staring at an aggregate points loss after Totton's Mike Kunzi played superbly to dispatch in form Paul Adams with ease. The Dorset man made breaks of 37, 40 and 44, using the in off red as his main weapon, to leave Adams sitting in his chair for most of the game. Adams replied with a 42 and 43 but to no avail
However this kick-started a revival for the Eastleigh team, as Peter Green beat Totton's Josh Barnes and Dave Baker overcame Totton's Tony Aldridge, thanks in part to a crucial 31 break. Churchill's Simon Green played confidently to beat Steve Allen, who made a 44, which left the last game well balanced
Churchill's Derek Foster needed to score 186 to secure a 4-2 win against Brian Cannons, but with Cannons racing ahead and Foster not getting to grips with the Totton tables 'throw', it looked as if the match would end up as a 3-3 draw. However Foster clawed his way back and edged over the 186 mark to give his team at least a winning margin, and with him requiring 24 for game, coolly knocked in the 24 unfinished for a thrilling 5-1 victory

2012 – 2013 Billiard League – Week 20 – 22 March 2013
HAMBLE AND HYTHE TURN IT AROUND AT CURDRIDGE RBL AND SARISBURY SOCIAL
Hamble Social and Hythe Social both had superb 4-2 'comeback' wins in the Southampton Billiards League this week
Table-toppers Hamble Social visited Curdridge Royal British Legion, hoping to consolidate their position with 7 games to go, and they started slowly with Curdridge's Clive Gamblin beating fellow +55 handicap player Will Mildenhall. Hamble's Tony Spridgeon played well to beat Brian Bull but Curdridge's Nick Alford rediscovered some form as he beat Paul Knights. Hamble then regrouped, as they won the last two games; with Steve Cottrell overcoming Derek Fry and Nick Wood victorious over Gwen Gamblin for a fine away win
Hythe Social had to do it the hard way as they went 2-0 down out at Sarisbury Social. Dave Leeworthy beat Hythe's Jamie Barnes by 19 and Norman Bradfield pipped Hythe's Brian Price by 5 as Sarisbury looked comfortable. Rob Tennant then overcame Stan Pitts by 13 and Wayne Crotty beat Geoff Knapp to set up a last pairing decider. Hythe's Wayne Chiverton was up to the task as he beat John Oldfield for a 976-949 aggregate points win
Churchill's Eastleigh welcomed Woolston Cons and won 5-1. Peter Green and Ian Hine had a superb game together with Green victorious in the end. Both players traded 20+ breaks and Hine even remarked that he "thoroughly enjoyed the game", even though he lost – a gallant loser indeed
Churchill's Derek Foster and Mark Emm played out a quiet game until, with the scores at 168-161 to the Churchills man, Foster made a fine 32 unfinished. Dave Baker played well against Woolston's Malcolm Willis to win and Churchill's Paul Adams made a 68 break for a good start against Sid Hunt. Hunt then played some fine all round cannons and in-offs to eventually leave himself requiring 22 for game. Adams required 60 and made a last gasp 57, missed the next shot and then potted the red for an unlikely win... phew!
The two Mikes, Woolston's Thatcher and Churchill's Henstredge played well throughout the pairing and Thatcher proved victorious by a narrow 13 points, to save his team the ignominy of a whitewash
Chandlers Ford Central beat visitor's Bitterne Royal British Legion 4-2 but no result card / electronic result has been received yet

2012 – 2013 Billiard League – Week 19 – 15 March 2013
HAMBLE SOCIAL'S TABLES GET A WELCOME UPGRADE
In the past it was with trepidation that teams visited Hamble Social. Playing on their rather old woolly cloths could undo the most skilled of billiard aficionados. But not any more... Will Mildenhall's team now play on brand new cloths which are 100 times better than the previous ones! Billiard and snooker centuries beckon...
Churchill's Eastleigh found the new baize to their liking, as they surprisingly beat the table-toppers 4-2 in the Southampton Billiards League. But all 10 players enjoyed a good evening of fine billiards
Simon Green got current champions Churchill's off to a good start by beating Tony Spridgeon, but it looked as if the Hamble man would pip Green, as he made a wonderful 49 break at the death, only for Green to battle to the line. Hamble's Steve Cottrell faced Mike Henstredge, and started well, mixing his improving billiard knowledge with some awesome long potting. Henstredge fought back using his new stance and cue action, but just fell short at the end
Churchill's Peter Green faced improving Nick Wood, and made a 38 break during a fine performance to beat the +5 player. Nick didn't quite reach the standards of his normal accurate game, and Greens' confidence grew on the fine new cloth. Hamble's Will Mildenhall squared up against Dave Baker, with the same handicap for both men, and played steadily to win, with both players playing some crowd-pleasing combinations
The match was balanced at 2-2 as Hamble's Paul Knights faced Churchill's Paul Adams. Adams started well with a 35, and continued with 58. Knights came back, playing some confident 1/2-ball in-offs to keep his handicap advantage. Adams then made a 15 hazard break of 47 (all red ball in-offs, after his opponents yellow ball was off the table). But Knights made a fine 22 to leave him requiring 12, with Adams needing 66. Adams then made a 42 and eventually ran out for a 4-2 team victory, 936 points to 900
Totton Rec welcomed in-form Chandlers Ford Central and found Chandler's Marc Shirley up to the task, as he beat Brian Cannons in the first game. And it got better for his team, as Wayne Muddiman overcame Mike Kunzi, thanks in part to breaks of 39 and 32. Totton fought back however, as Josh Barnes beat Daniel Zagaroli (42 and 43 break) and Steve Allen overcame Ray Smith. And it was left to a revitalised Tony Aldridge to finish, by beating Chandler's Terry Azor (49 break) for a fine 4-2 team victory

2012 – 2013 Billiard League – Week 18 – 2 March 2013
CHANDLERS DO THE DOUBLE OVER CHURCHILLS
Chandlers Ford Central visited Churchill’s Eastleigh in the Southampton Billiard League, and left with a fine 4-2 victory, when it looked as if the champions would get away with a 3-3 draw
Churchill's Derek Foster (32 break) led Daniel Zagaroli by nearly 100 at the 150 mark, but this just seemed to inspire Zagaroli, as he made a 37 and a 67 unfinished, to go with 33, 36, and 38. Mark Adams played steadily to beat an out of sorts Terry Azor (perhaps due to his exhausting exploits in the last 16 of the English Amateur Billiards Championship, played in Derby the previous weekend), who made a 39 and 31
Paul Adams faced John Mullane (Azor's conqueror in the English Amateur), and Mullane picked up from where he had left off, as he almost treated the league game as a practice session! His control of the long in-off and top-of-the-table game was imperious, and showed why he is far and above the best player in the south of England at the moment
He made 65, 37, 59 and 41 (looking as if a century was just a matter of time) and, although Adams rallied with two quick fire 30+ breaks, the Chandler's man cruised to the winning line. Whatever level we play at, we should all aspire to John's art of the 'simple' game, which makes it so compelling to watch. He plays Teessider Daren Kell (a fine player himself) in the semi-finals of the English Amateur over the weekend of April 13-14. We all wish him well
Dave Baker and Wayne Muddiman had a fine battle, with Baker making a 37 break and edging over the winning line. This set up the final game between Peter Green and Marc Shirley. Green kept his handicap advantage for most of the game, but Shirley, who is having some tuition from the great Derek Clarke, finished the stronger and gave his team the win
Totton Rec welcomed Sarisbury Social and beat them 4-2, and it all went down to the last pairing, as Sarisbury led by 7 points on the aggregate! John Oldfield started well for Sarisbury by beating Brian Cannons, but Mike Kunzi overcame Norman Bradfield to level. Totton's Josh Barnes used his growing billiard knowledge, combined with some awesome potting, to beat Stan Pitts, but Sarisbury's Geoff Knapp (42 and 39) played well and beat Tony Aldridge. Totton's Steve Allen was the man for the occasion as he made 44, 32 and 31 to beat Dave Leeworthy in the deciding game
Woolston Cons visited Curdridge RBL, expecting to have five players, but unfortunately Mark Emm had to work, which left them thinking that they may lose the match! They needn't have worried, as the first three games went their way, with Keith Castles, Malcolm Willis and Mike Thatcher beating Derek Fry, Clive Gamblin and Gwen Gamblin respectively. Curdridge's Brian Bull showed his determination as he overcame Ian Hine for his teams 'played' winning game. Curdridge's Nick Alford had the walkover point
Bitterne RBL beat in form visitors Hythe 4-2, with Wayne Chiverton starting well for Hythe by beating Chris Pullen. Mark Stansmore made a fine 41 unfinished against Wayne Crotty when they were both in the 150s, and Paul Lawrence and Steve Boterhoek overcame Rob Tennant and Brian Price respectively. Jamie Barnes pulled one back for the visitors by beating Paul Tavender
Hamble Social had this week's bye

Match report from Steve Allen:
(1) John started off quickly reducing his deficit to 20 by the time Brian had scored 20, Brian rallied but to no avail.
(2) Norman steamed away using good use of the better run of the balls, Mike got going in the second 100, with both players exchanging 20 breaks, but it was Mike who made the crucial 20 to run out.
(3) Josh started as he meant to carry on, double baulking Stan from the break, (Josh commented " I’ve been practicing that one") There were a few oohs and aahs from the watching opposition as Josh fired in some cracking pots, Stan didn't have any answer to the relentless pounding as Josh ran out using some good billiard shots.
(4) Geoff fired away early having consecutive breaks of 42 & 39, this gave him a lead of a 100 points, Tony tried his best but could only match Geoff in the second part of the match.
This left the match at 2-2 with Sarisbury leading the aggregate by 7 points.
(5) Dave started well keeping hold of his 65 start by the time Steve had cleared his minus handicap, Steve missing a few unexpected shots but got going in the middle of the match, catching Dave up with runs of 44, 32 & 31, Dave also missed a couple of opportunities which left Steve to run out the winner.

TOTTON FIND THEIR WINNING WAYS AND BITTERNE RBL SHOCK CHURCHILLS
Totton Rec handed out only Hamble Social's second defeat this season as they overcame the handicap of fielding only four players to win 4-2
Totton's 'comeback king' Tony Aldridge finding his form after a shaky start beat Rob Shattock and improving Josh Barnes overcame Steve Cottrell, to give Totton a 2-0 lead. Parkstone's Mike Kunzi faced in-form Nick Wood and made a 38 and 31, but could not deny the Hamble captain as he made runs of 31 and 30 to win. Totton's captain Steve Allen made a fine 57 and a 33 in beating Tony Spridgeon to leave Hamble's Will Mildenhall wishing he had an opponent!
Bitterne Royal British Legion welcomed current champions Churchill's Eastleigh and handed out a comprehensive 5-1 win. Churchill's Derek Foster (38 break) lulled his teammates into a false sense of security as he beat Steve Boterhoek. Paul Tavender fought back for Bitterne, beating Mike Henstredge and Paul Lawrence watched as Paul Adams made 70 and 38 but found great determination to run out by 200-185 – and that was after Adams had made 124 on the table opposite in a practice session the Sunday before!
Chris Christodoulou made it a contemplative evening for ‘The Adams family’ as he overcame Mark Adams with some neat billiards and potting, and it was left to Chris Pullen to beat Dave Baker for a fine Legion win
Sarisbury Social carried on where they left off before Christmas as they beat visitors Woolston Cons 4-2. Stan Pitts beat Mark Emm and John Oldfield made breaks of 31, 34, and 41 in overcoming Mike Thatcher. Woolston's Keith Castles stopped the rot by beating Dave Leeworthy but Norman Bradfield beat Ian Hine by five points 200-195. Woolston's Malcolm Willis gave his team something to cheer about as he won the last pairing against Geoff Knapp

Totton only had four players, which meant that Will didn't get a game.
Steve Allen’s report:
(1) Tony & Steve started slowly, but it was Tony who got his game going first with a couple of 20 breaks using his skill of the all round cannon, Steve couldn't recover.
(2) Josh played with his normal flare, with some good use of newly found billiards skill and only making the white leave the table once. Rob tried to keep hold of this coat tails to no avail.
(3) Mike again seemed to draw the inform player, with both players making good breaks, but it was Nick who proved more consistent.
(4) Steve made a good start with the 57 break bringing the scores level before the 100 was up, Tony battled well towards the end, but Steve with the better run of the table came through.
(5) Unfortunately with Brian Cannons still sick & Matt Osborne working, Totton had to concede the last game, when unable to find 5th player.

2011-2012 Billiard League
CHURCHILL'S ARE BILLIARD CHAMPIONS
Churchill’s Eastleigh has won the Southampton Billiard League championship for the first time
The team, consisting of captain and number one Paul Adams, brother Mark, Petersfield resident Derek Foster, Dave Baker, Peter Green, son Simon Green, Mike Henstredge and Sid Reid triumphed after a 24 match season
Paul said, “It’s been a great season for all of us as we have all contributed at different times. The five player format has a team points total aggregate point on offer, so if you end up losing your game you can still make a difference with the points you score
The core of the team came from Aerostructures and was welcomed with open arms at Churchill’s Club Eastleigh. “It’s been a real club performance right down to Ken Jones who keeps our tables in superb condition and Janet who makes our lovely sandwiches!”
“I’d like to mention Mike, Dave and Mark in particular. They’re comparative novices and still learning, and are picking up the finer details of this wonderful game and not just trying to pot the red ball or thrash the balls around the table. My late father Roy Adams, Gordon Lewis and Ernie Shornie who taught and played for us at Aerostructures would all be immensely proud of our achievement”
