Curdridge RBL win cancelled match 4-2 to leave Churchills Eastleigh bottom!
2017-2018 Billiards League – Week 21 of 21 – May 23 2018
Churchills Eastleigh played their cancelled match with home side Curdridge RBL, needing to beat them 5-1 to leapfrog Curdridge and finish second from bottom in the Southampton Billiards league.
They started in confident mood, with Churchill's Dave Baker playing well in the second half of his game against Dave Fry, eventually winning by 200-192. Churchill's Paul Adams played his first full league game for 12 months, thanks to a shoulder injury, and looked to be heading for defeat against Rob Smith but won by two points 200-198, making a 33 break in the process.
Curdridge fought back with Clive Gamblin playing well to beat Derek Foster by 200-153 and Brian Bull didnt miss any long in-offs during his 200-166 victory over Mike Henstredge, which sealed Churchills wooden spoon fate! Curdridge's Richard Marshall then reeled in Peter Green to pip him by 200-199 to finish the match 4-2 and the aggregate 990-918.

Worthy champions
St Denys Cons pip last year's champions Chandlers Ford Central on matches won!
2017-2018 Billiards League – Week 21 of 21 – March 28 2018
St Denys Cons have won the Southampton Billiards League despite losing 5-1 at Totton Rec on the final day of the league campaign. They reached 75 points, the same as Chandlers Ford Central after their result, but pipped last season’s champions by winning fourteen matches to Chandler’s ten at the final count! It was a fantastic achievement with the new St Denys team coming together in the last few seasons and finishing bottom of the league last year!
St Denys Con’s Chris Bishop secured the one point his team needed in the first game of the evening by beating John Ransome by 200-185, compiling a 45 break in the process. The match was interrupted though by St Denys finding they were getting constant ‘kicks’ and ‘wide throws’ due to the away team’s white ball being 4 1/2 grams lighter than the yellow ball. After changing the set of balls, the next four games went Totton’s way. Mick Kunzi (31 and 33 break) overcame Ade Bridger 200-177, Lee Fitzpatrick beat Malcolm Willis 200-123, Steve Allen (45 break) pipped Derek King 200-194 and Tony Aldridge (32 break) overcame Andy Carter 200-124.
Match billiard balls should have a weight tolerance of up to 0.5g across the set of three balls. The problem with an unmatched set of balls that differ in weight by more than this, is that strange non-consistent reactions occur between the balls. One suggestion for the 2018-2019 season is a change from the standard yellow, white and red Aramith Tournament Champion billiard balls we use, to using Aramith Tournament Champion Super Pro Cup billiard balls. The yellow and white balls in the Super Pro Cup variant have large contrasting coloured spots on them. This helps identify them when the possibility of mixing them up with a snooker set of white and yellow balls is possible. I have heard that there is a possibility of a sponsorship deal to supply two sets of balls to each team in the offering so this would help immensely! We’ll keep you informed.

2. Balls
The balls shall be of an approved composition and shall each have a diameter of 52.5mm with a tolerance of +/ 0.05mm and:
(a) a set of balls may be either Red, Spot White (with two or more black spots for identification) and a White, Or Red, Yellow and White which may have spots;
(b) they shall be of equal weight within a tolerance of 0.5g between any two balls in a set;
(c) a set of balls may be changed by agreement between the players or on a decision by the referee.
Churchills Eastleigh had the result of the week as they won for only the fourth time this season, a 4-2 victory over visiting Park Gate RBL. Churchill’s Derek Foster (35 and 38 break) got things off to the perfect start by beating Steve Boterhoek by 200-137. That became 2-0, as Churchill’s Simon Green played well to beat Paul Tavender 200-160 and Peter Green consolidated the score by overcoming Chris Pullen 200-185. Park Gate fought back with Paul Lawrence (38 break) beating Mark McLean 200-104 and in the last pairing Park Gate’s Chris Christodoulou pipped Mike Henstredge 200-190. But Henstredge had done enough to secure the team aggregate points win by only 12 points 894-882.
Chandlers Ford Central could do no more in their quest to retain the championship, as they thrashed Sarisbury Social 6-0. Chandler’s John Mullane and Daniel Zagaroli were in blistering form again, as both made high-class centuries. Zagaroli made breaks of 49, 51, 81, and a superb 103 to oust his opponent Kas Remzi by a substantial 200-100. Mullane then eclipsed his teammate by compiling a wonderful 198 (15 points short of the all time league record he set two weeks before!) to go with more modest runs of 37 and 31.
Chandlers Ford’s Terry Azor joined the break building party as he made runs of 62, 33, 30, 34, 39 and 69 to beat Geoff Knapp 200-157, and Korbin Lowe made a 34 break to overcome Steve Gardiner 200-153 for 4-0. Chandler’s Graham Hollick rounded off a miserable evening for the away team by overcoming John Oldfield 200-163.
Hamble Social finished their season in style to take third place by drawing 3-3 with visiting Curdridge RBL. But it could have been so different as Curdridge lost two games by less than ten points. Winning for Hamble were Rob Shattock over Brian Bull 200-168, Will Mildenhall against Rob Smith 200-194 and Mark Spridgeon against Richard Marshall 200-191. Curdridge’s saviours were Derek Fry over Nick Wood (36 break) 200-104 and Clive Gamblin against Tony Spridgeon 200-140 to win the aggregate points total 953-844. The wooden spoon is yet to be decided as bottom placed Churchills will need to play a postponed match with second from bottom Curdridge in a couple of weeks time!

Curdridge RBL shock champions as Chandlers Ford Central title grip slips
2017-2018 Billiards League – Week 20 of 21 – March 21 2018
Curdridge Royal British Legion severely damaged Chandlers Ford Central’s chances of regaining the Southampton Billiards League Championship as they beat them 4-2.
But it started so well for Chandlers, as Korbin Lowe made breaks of 38 and 34 to beat Richard Marshall 200-183. Curdridge bounced back with Rob Smith overcoming Terry Azor (35 and 52 break) 200-113, but Graham Hollick made it 2-1 to the champions after overcoming Nick Alford 200-158. Curdridge levelled the match with Derek Fry beating Daniel Zagaroli (48 and 52 break) 200-107, and Curdridge’s Clive Gamblin overcame John Mullane (35, 44 and 32 break) 200-106 for the victory and a 941 to 726 aggregate points win.
Top-of-the-table St Denys Cons extended their lead over Chandlers Ford by beating visitors Sarisbury Social 5-1. Winning for St Denys were Malcolm Willis (41 break) against John Oldfield (31 break) 200-177, Derek King over Kas Remzi 200-155, Andy Carter against Geoff Knapp (39 break) 200-169, and Ade Bridger over Norman Bradfield 200-182. Sarisbury saved the whitewash with Steve Gardiner beating Con’s Chris Bishop (35 break) 200-191.
With only one match to go, Chandlers Ford Central need to win 6-0 at home to Sarisbury Social, and hope St Denys slip up and lose to hosts Totton Rec 6-0 for the reigning champions to regain the title. Stranger things have happened in sport!
Park Gate RBL beat visiting third placed Hamble Social 4-2. Winning for Park Gate were Steve Boterhoek against Rob Shattock 200-178, Ian Finch over Mark Spridgeon 200-175 and Paul Lawrence (49 break) against Tony Spridgeon 200-167. In-between those games were wins for Hamble’s Paul Knights over Chris Pullen by a nail-biting 200-198, and a fine display by Hamble’s Nick Wood who made breaks of 32, 32 and 68 to beat Chris Christodoulou 200-182.
Totton Rec came back from 2-0 down against visiting Churchills Eastleigh for a fine 4-2 victory. Unfortunately, Churchills could only field four players, but got off to the perfect start as Churchill’s Mike Adams had a great 200-134 win against Mick Kunzi, who made breaks of 33 and 31. And that was backed up by Churchill’s Peter Green beating newcomer Bernard McCarthy 200-183. Totton fought back though with Lee Fitzpatrick’s narrow 200-193 win over Simon Green, and Tony Aldridge’s significant 200-103 win against Mark Mclean to take the aggregate by 21 points, 717-696 and the match.

Mullane's monumental 213 break smashes a 26 year old record... well done John!
2017-2018 Billiards League – Week 19 of 21 – March 14 2018
Chandlers Ford Central’s John Mullane made Southampton Billiards League history, as he made a monumental 213 break, during his team’s 6-0 victory over visiting Park gate RBL. The break surpassed the league’s previous high of 181 unfinished made by Aerostructure’s Dave Burgess back in the 1992 league season. Mullane nearly beat it in 2017, falling just two short with a superb 179!
This time he made sure of the record, linking it with breaks of 52 and a 31 during his win over Chris Pullen by 200-151. Teammate Daniel Zagaroli chipped in with a 200-185 win over Steve Boterhoek, making runs of 37, 33, 31, 59 and 64. Chandler’s captain Terry Azor thought he had made the highest break of the evening with a magical 118 and a 74 during his 200-184 win against Paul Tavender, but this just inspired Mullane to his fabulous compilation of in-offs, cannons and pots!
Chandler’s Graham Hollick made it 4-0 after beating Chris Christodoulou 200-158, thanks to a superb 43 unfinished break. Correction, it was Korbin Lowe who made the 43 unfinished break! Terry Azor inadvertantly assigned it to Graham! Keep trying Mr Hollick!!!. And the whitewash was sealed with Korbin Lowe’s 200-114 win over Gate's Paul Lawrence (36 and 31 breaks), winning the aggregate point 1000-792.
St Denys Cons stay top, but by only two points going into the last two league matches, thanks to a hard fought 4-2 victory at bottom-of-the-table Churchills Eastleigh. It could have been so different though as Churchill’s lost the aggregate point by an agonising two points 865-867 on the last game, when it looked as if Churchill’s Peter Green would beat Andrew Carter. It was not to be however as Green could not find the killer blow and let Carter in to claw his way back for a superb 200-182 victory.
Backing up Carter’s win for St Denys were Chris Bishop over Mark McLean 200-150 and Ade Bridger against Simon Green 200-133. Churchill’s victors were Mike Henstredge over Derek King 200-142 and Dave Baker against Malcolm Willis 200-125.
Hamble Social made it two wins in a row, and 11 points from 12, after they shocked visiting Totton Rec 5-1. Hamble’s Paul Knights played well to beat Lee Fitzpatrick by a significant 200-152, and that was followed by Hamble’s Will Mildenhall overcoming Brian Cannons 200-159. That quickly became 3-0, thanks to Hamble’s Nick Wood making a 36 break during his 200-113 victory over Mick Kunzi (32 break). Totton stopped the rot with Steve Allen making a fine 61 break to help him to a nail-biting 200-197 win over Tony Spridgeon. Hamble’s Rob Shattock consolidated the team victory by overcoming Tony Aldridge 200-185 in the last pairing.
Sarisbury Social beat visiting Curdridge RBL 6-0.

Churchills nearly beat the champions as Mullane creates another century
2017-2018 Billiards League – Week 17 of 21 – February 28 2018
Churchills Eastleigh had a fantastic 3-3 draw with current champions Chandlers Ford Central in the Southampton Billiards League, but it was Chandler’s John Mullane who stole the show again as he made a superb 107 break.
It started well for Churchills as Mike Adams, playing only his third league game ever, pipped Graham Hollick by a close 200-187. On the other table English Amateur Billiards Championship quarter-finalist Mullane was in majestic form as he compiled breaks of 37, 52, 51, 107, 35 and 33 during his 200-163 victory over an admiring Simon Green.
Churchill’s David Baker had the result of the night as he pipped Daniel Zagaroli by 200-192, and that was after Zagaroli had made runs of 54, 56, 38, 36 and 42. It could have been even better for Churchills as Mike Henstredge was pipped by 200-195 by Chandler’s captain Terry Azor. That meant Churchills Peter Green had to beat Korbin Lowe by 22 points to win the match. Lowe had other thoughts though as he played some fine billiards to keep Green at bay. But it was Green who fell over the line by a nail biting 200-196 to secure the 3-3 draw!
Hamble Social also had a fine result, a 4-2 victory over top-of-the-table St Denys Cons. St Deny's Andy Carter won the first game against Mark Spridgeon, but back came Hamble with Will Mildenhall pipping Mark Emm by two points 200-198. Hamble’s Paul Knights then beat St Deny's Malcolm Willis by a significant 200-127 to give his team the aggregate points total advantage.
Hamble’s Rob Shattock made it 3-1 for the hosts as he overcame Ade Bridger by 200-167. But St Deny's Chris Bishop made the score respectable for the leaders as he beat Tony Spridgeon by 200-145, to leave the aggregate score at 928-892 in Hamble’s favour.
Park Gate RBL visited Curdridge RBL and left with a commendable 3-3 draw, and that was after only winning two tables. Curdridge’s Nick Alford won the first pairing against Ian Finch 200-185, but the next two games were Park Gates, as Chris Christodoulou overcame Axel Peplow 200-183, and Chris Pullen beat Clive Gamblin by a significant 200-112. Curdridge secured their second and third point with wins for Derek Fry over Steve Boterhoek 200-197, and Gwen Gamblin’s 200-162 victory over Paul Lawrence, only to lose the aggregate point by 895 to 944.
Sarisbury Social beat visiting Totton Rec 4-2. Winning for Sarisbury were Geoff Knapp against Brian Cannons 200-176, and Norman Bradfield (38 break) over Mick Kunzi 200-122 in the first two pairings. Totton hit back with wins for Lee Fitzpatrick over John Oldfield 200-192, and Steve Allen (46 break) against Steven Gardiner 200-174. Sarisbury’s Kas Remzi won the last game of the evening against Tony Aldridge 200-192 to seal the victory and the aggregate by 966-890.

Curdridge secure a fine 3-3 draw at Totton Rec
2017-2018 Billiards League – Week 16 of 21 – February 21 2018
Curdridge RBL had a fine 3-3 draw at Totton Rec in the Southampton Billiards league, but it could have been so different with Totton losing two games by only three points, with the total team points aggregate going down to the last pairing.
Curdridge’s returning Nick Alford got his team off to the perfect start by overcoming Brian Cannons by a nail biting 200-197. Totton’s Mick Kunzi levelled the match by beating Gwen Gamblin by 200-179 but Curdridge’s Derek Fry made it 2-1 after triumphing over Lee Fitzpatrick by a slender three points 200-197!
Totton’s Steve Allen made valiant effort against Clive Gamblin, making breaks of 47 and 31, but could only look on as Gamblin ran out a 200-189 winner. That left the aggregate poised at 783 to Totton and 779 to Curdridge. Totton’s Tony Aldridge made sure of the draw by beating Richard Marshall by only 10 points 200-190, but secured the aggregate point by 983-969.
St Denys Cons stay top after a fine 4-2 victory over visitors Park Gate RBL. Winners for St Denys were Malcolm Willis over Chris Christodoulou 200-158, Derek King decisively against Paul Lawrence 200-111, and in the last pairing, Chris Bishop (43 break) over Chris Pullen 200-169. Park Gate’s victors were Steve Boterhoek against Andy Carter (31 break) 200-156 and Ian Finch by a slender 3 points 200-197 against Ade Bridger.
Chandlers Ford Central stay in contention for the title after beating hosts Hamble Social 4-2. Winners for Chandlers were Korbin Lowe (42, 36 breaks) over Will Mildenhall 200-169, John Mullane (63, 56, 47, 39 breaks) against Mark Spridgeon 200-121, and Terry Azor (62, 36, 46, 82, 32 unf) over Rob Shattock 200-181. Hamble sandwiched those three losses with Nick Wood beating Dave White 200-174 first and Tony Spridgeon beating Daniel Zagaroli 200-167 in the last game.
Churchills Eastleigh unfortunately could only field four players due to sickness but still managed to conjure up a 3-3 draw against visiting Sarisbury Social. Churchill’s Mike Adams fought back superbly to only lose by 6 points 200-194 against a determined Kas Remzi and Sarisbury’s Steven Gardiner played well to beat in-form Simon Green 200-155 for a 2-0 lead.
Back came Churchills however with Peter Green overcoming Geoff Knapp by a significant 200-117 and Dave Baker sealing the draw by beating Norman Bradfield 200-148 to take the aggregate 749-665.

2017-2018 Billiards League – Week 15 of 21 – February 7 2018
Totton Rec were in blistering form in the Southampton Billiards league as they overcame hosts Park Gate RBL 6-0.
Totton's Lee Fitzpatrick got his team off to the perfect start as he pipped Ian Finch by an agonising four points 200-194. That was followed by Tony Aldridge's battle with Chris Christodoulou that went down to the last five points as the Totton veteran pipped Christodoulou by 200-195.

It soon became 4-0, as Mick Kunzi pulled back a 100 point deficit to win by 30, 200-170 against Steve Boterhoek, making a 55 break in the process. It was left to Totton's number one Steve Allen (36 break) to cap a fine evening by beating Chris Pullen 200-161 and leave Park Gate dreaming of what might have been.

Sad news of the passing of Sid Reid and St Denys Cons increase league lead
2017-2018 Billiards League – Week 14 of 21 – January 20 2018
It is a very sad week this week as we learn of the passing of my teammate Sid Reid.
St Denys Cons increased their lead at the top of the Southampton Billiards League to eight points after a 4-2 victory over visiting Totton Rec.
Con’s Chris Bishop overcame Steve Allen by a significant 200-112 and that was after Allen had made a 31 break. Back came Totton however with John Ransome pipping Malcolm Willis by 200-193, Willis making a consolation 38 break. St Deny’s new recruit Ade Bridger then made it 2-1 by beating Mike Kunzi 200-165, with Kunzi making a 67 break.
St Deny’s Derek King increased his team’s lead to 3-1 thanks to his 200-166 victory over Lee Fitzpatrick. But back came Totton with Tony Aldridge overcoming Andy Carter by 200-186, but it was too late to win the team aggregate points total as St Denys won that by 979-843.
Hamble lost ground on the leaders as they were comprehensively beaten 5-1 by hosts Curdridge RBL, which moved them off the bottom of the table by one point over Churchills Eastleigh.
Winners for Curdridge were Clive Gamblin over Will Mildenhall 200-144 and Brian Bull against Mark Spridgeon 200-189 in the first two games. Back came Hamble’s stalwart Tony Spridgeon to beat Derek Fry 200-172 but Curdridge made it 3-1 thanks to Rob Smith’s significant victory over Nick Wood 200-77. Curdridge’s Gwen Gamblin capped a superb evening by holding her nerve to beat Rob Shattock by an agonising one point 200-199, to win the aggregate 972-809!
Sarisbury Social had an excellent 4-2 win over visiting champions Chandlers Ford Central, winning the aggregate 936-756. Winners for Sarisbury were John Oldfield over Korbin Lowe (37 break) 200-169, Kas Remzi against Dave White 200-165 and Steve Gardiner significantly over Terry Azor 200-22.
Chandler’s saviours were a returning Trevor Thorn, as he made breaks of 44 and a fine 45 unfinished to beat Norman Bradfield 200-178, and Daniel Zagaroli who again made five breaks over 30 in match, a 69, 33, 75, 43 and a 54 to dispatch Geoff Knapp 200-158.
A fine match at Park Gate RBL ensued with visitor's Churchills Eastleigh prior to hearing of their much-loved teammate Sid Reid’s passing. Sid will be remembered as a true gentleman. Always encouraging younger players with his great knowledge of snooker, professional players and stories of great matches in and around Southampton.
On a personal note, he was always encouraging to me when I was a young player at Pot Black Snooker Club above the old C&A store in Southampton. He was a legend of the tournaments that the club’s managers Alby and John Milkins would run, with up to 90 odd players turning up for a Sunday special!
Mostly I remember him for his steely skill and determination in the Friday night points sessions the top players played there. He would often come to the table and clear up with a 60 or 70 break, which included some awesome long potting and positional play. In more recent times he was part of my billiards team, and while he would admit to billiards not being his first love, he would show admirable skill, mixed with his potting prowess to enthral us all. We will all miss him immensely.
Park Gate won the match 4-2 but it went down to the last game as the first four pairings were shared. Gate’s Paul Lawrence made a controlled 46 to help beat Dave Baker 200-146, but then Churchill’s Simon Green played superbly to beat Chris Christodoulou 200-131. Gate’s Ian Finch beat first time league debutant Mike Adams 200-166, but Eastleigh’s Peter Green squared the match by overcoming Chris Pullen 200-178. Churchills lead the aggregate by 712-709 going into the last game but it was left to Park Gate’s Steve Boterhoek to overcome Derek Foster 200-146 for a fine last game victory 909-858.

Churchills Eastleigh turn the tide and Zagaroli hits another century
2017-2018 Billiards League – Week 13 of 21 – January 17 2018
Churchills Eastleigh finally won a match in the Southampton Billiards league after a barren stretch going back seven weeks, as they overcame visitors Totton Rec 4-2, and that was after being 2-0 down.
Totton’s Steve Allen got his team off to the perfect start as he beat Derek Foster by a significant 200-100, making breaks of 37 and 35 in the process. That was followed by teammate Lee Fitzpatrick overcoming Churchill’s Simon Green 200-145.
But back roared Churchills, with Peter Green turning the aggregate on its head by beating Totton’s Mick Kunzi 200-41. Churchill’s Mark Mclean then made a 31 break during his 200-174 win over John Ransom 200-174. Churchill’s Dave Baker sealed the victory by beating Tony Aldridge 200-157, to win the aggregate 845-772 to move them off the bottom of the table.
Park Gate RBL had a great 4-2 win at Hamble Social, winning the total team points aggregate by only 26 points 936-910. Winning for Park Gate were Paul Tavender (48 break) pipping Paul Knights 200-192, Ian Finch against Nick Wood 200-161 and Chris Christodoulou over Tony Spridgeon 200-157. Sarisbury Social give Curdridge RBL a Christmas hangover
2017-2018 Billiards League – Week 12 of 21 – December 20 2017
Sarisbury Social gave Curdridge RBL a Christmas hangover as they beat their hosts 5-1 in the Southampton Billiards league.
Sarisbury’s John Oldfield beat Derek Fry by 200-154 in the first pairing, making a 36 and 30 in the process. That quickly became 2-0 as Geoff Knapp overcame Gwen Gamblin 200-179. Curdridge fought back with Brian Bull beating Norman Bradfield 200-145, but that only delayed Sarisbury going 3-1 in front, thanks to Steve Gardiner’s 200-145 victory over Clive Gamblin. Sarisbury’s Kas Remzi topped a fine team performance by overcoming Richard Marshall 200-169.
Champions Chandlers Ford Central moved ominously into third place after their 5-1 win over hosts Park Gate RBL. But it could have been so different, as two games went down to the last four points! Park Gate’s Paul Lawrence got things off to a good start for his team as he beat Trevor Thorne 200-187. But it was their only joy as the next four pairings went to Chandlers.
Chandler’s Korbin Lowe beat Steve Boterhoek 200-162, and that was followed by Dave White overcoming Ian Finch 200-153 for a 2-1 lead. Chandler’s captain Terry Azor made a 61 break during his nail-biting 200-196 win over Chris Christodoulou. And that set up the crowning glory of Chandler’s John Mullane making a 87 break during his equally close victory over Chris Pullen by 200-196.
St Denys Cons remain top after a fine 4-2 victory over bottom placed Churchills Eastleigh.
St Denys started well with Chris Bishop making a 47 break against Derek Foster to beat him 200-103. But backed roared Churchills with Dave Baker making a wonderful 53 unfinished break to overcome Andy Carter 200-109.
The most exciting game in terms of closeness came up next, as Churchill’s Simon Green and Ade Bridger traded equal blows. But just when Bridger looked like a nailed on winner, Green fought back to pip him by one point 200-199! St Deny’s Mark Emm played well to make it 2-2 by beating Peter Green 200-160. This left St Deny’s Malcolm Willis to seal the match by overcoming Mark Mclean 200-97 and the aggregate point by 908-760.
Hosts Totton Rec rued their missed chances as second placed Hamble Social beat them 4-2. Hamble’s Tony Spridgeon continued his fine form by pipping Mick Kunzi (60 and 32 breaks) 200-196. Totton’s Brian Cannons had a fine 200-150 win over Nick Wood to level at 1-1.
Hamble’s Paul Knights held his nerve to pip Steve Allen (35 and 68 breaks) 200-193, but Totton’s Lee Fitzpatrick (32 break) fought back to beat Rob Shattock 200-160 for 2-2. It was left to Hamble’s Mark Spridgeon to beat Tony Aldridge by a significant 200-117 to steal the aggregate 910-906 and the 4-2 victory.

Danny's magnificent 107 pips Terry to the top spot!
2017-2018 Billiards League – Week 10 of 21 – December 13 2017
Reigning champions Chandlers Ford Central have finally started to find their form as they beat hosts Churchills Eastleigh 5-1 in the Southampton Billiards League.
Break building was of the highest calibre as Chandler’s Daniel Zagaroli made a magnificent season high so far 107 (to eclipse his teammate Terry Azor’s previous high of 103), as he overwhelmed Peter Green by 200-175, also compiling runs of 60 and 59. Chandler's Dave White beat Simon Green 200-164, Mike Thatcher overcame Dave Baker 200-164 and Korbin Lowe (45 break) was victorious over Mike Henstredge 200-137. Curdridge RBL visited high-flying Park Gate RBL and left with a fabulous 4-2 victory – and not many teams have achieved that feat! Curdridge’s Derek Fry made a fine 41 break during his 200-117 win over Paul Lawrence but Park Gate’s Chris Christodoulou beat Clive Gamblin by 200-166 to level.
Curdridge’s Rob Smith them beat Steve Boterhoek by 200-184 and Curdridge’s Gwen Gamblin had a nail-biter against Chris Pullen, winning by only four points 200-196 to lead 3-1. Park Gate’s Ian Finch found some form as he overcame Brian Bull by 200-161, but it was too late as Curdridge won the team points total aggregate by 927-897.
Previous table proppers Sarisbury Social had a fantastic 5-1 win out at Totton Rec to leapfrog Churchills Eastleigh at the bottom. Winners for Sarisbury were Kas Remzi over Brian Cannons 200-196, Norman Bradfield against John Ransome 200-169, John Oldfield over Steve Allen 200-139 and Geoff Knapp against Tony Aldridge 200-187. Totton’s Christmas angel turned out to be Mick Kunzi, as he prevented a whitewash by overcoming Steve Gardiner 200-172.
St Denys Cons continued their rise as they beat visitors Hamble Social 4-2. St Denys winners were Derek King against Paul Knights by 200-114, Andy Carter over Nick Wood 200-49 and new recruit Ade Bridger 200-138 against Tony Spridgeon. Only one point between three teams at the top
2017-2018 Billiards League – Week 7 of 21 – November 15 2017
The top three positions in the Southampton Billiards league did not change this week, as Park Gate RBL remained top by matches won from Hamble Social in second and Totton Rec only one point behind in third.
Totton Rec bounced back from their defeat at home to Churchills the week before by overcoming St Denys Cons 4-2.
